We have recently been approached by some of our clients who have been contacted by email.
The person contacting them has gained knowledge of one of their passwords and has threatened to expose their use of websites (which they wouldn’t like their mother to know about) unless of course, they are paid money.

It is extremely easy to get someone else’s password. There is even a website which lists the passwords which have been hacked. However, it is much harder to use that password to access internet history. These people are attempting to blackmail the password holders using the fact that they have their legal passwords by stating that they will release details of their internet usage to all and sundry.

These are scams. However, if you have a longstanding password for various accounts and especially if your user name is your email address, you should change to a different password.
